INTRODUCTION
As human entered 21st century, information technology has infiltrated into almost every aspect of our life such as politics, economics, culture, social activities and etc. Information systems are being put to use in a wide range of occasions. Seeking effective and secure data processing and information exchange has become the common need for people across the globe; therefore stricter demands for the function and operating environment of information systems are being raised from users spanning all walks of life. For that reason, a computer room, which serves as the pivotal link of the information system, has been drawing more and more attention to virtually all organizations that use computers.
In 2004, the global market for computer room is estimated at more than 10 billion US Dollars. In China, over 50,000 computer rooms have been constructed, among them 48% belong to small and medium sized enterprises, 36% are in big companies, and large scale and highly sophisticated computer rooms (mostly in telecom service and IDC) account for 16%. The figure is still increasing rapidly, in fact, computer-room-related industries have become an important sector of China’s economy and an indispensable integral part of the country’s informationization process.
Shanghai, China’s economic and financial center, has long been attaching great importance to the establishment of information systems. In the early 90’s of last century, enterprises in Shanghai began to pursue electronic solutions of their business models, almost at the same time, local government departments at different levels started piloting online service and electronic banking and distance education sprang up and aroused extensive interests. Shanghai’s fast pace in informationization dramatically spurred relevant market, particularly computer room construction and its related equipment markets. Many manufacturers, engineering companies and solution providers, both from home and abroad, have since been attracted to this world class economic hot spot which covers Shanghai and surrounding area, also known as the Yangtse River Delta.
It is against the backdrop of the increasing investment in information infrastructure “ComRoom China 2005” has come into being. The expo’ aims to provide a platform, for product and service providers and end users, to show off the latest technologies and exchange views in the construction of computer rooms and information systems.
